20.08.03 September 6 to December 20 - Art in General (79 Walker St. NYC) exhibit "Acousmatic Objects", sound installation created by Grundik+Slava. (Audio in Elevator project). This sound piece creates aural objects that have no physical realization but exist only as recorded sound. They have no smell, weight, nor can they be touched. It is the listener who embellishes the sounds where they lack tactile characteristics. Please check audiostream of Audio In The Elevator Project.

Acousmatic objects are objects exist only as recorded sounds. They don’t have any other realizations. They don’t weight, don’t smell, one can’t touch them. And in the same time they are objects as chair or river. Or elevator. One can listen to acousmatic objects, and imagination could easily fill a lack of their tactile characteristics.

We divided our A-Objects (Acousmatic Objects) into three main categories.

  1. A-objects that have their prototypes in “real world”. E.g. music boxes, juke-boxes or letters (the latter subcategory is still “under construction”)
  2. A-objects that have their prototypes in the world of literature, fine art etc. E.g. “Kharms’ Incubator”, the object, described by Russian Avant-garde poet Daniil Kharms in his short story “The Incubating Period”*.
  3. A-objects that don’t have any prototypes. E.g. “Object#2” and “Ulalilamorte”. The latter was so-compose with and sang by our pal clown Fedor Makarov.

We love the idea of putting our A-objects into the moving elevator. Elevator is very funny object by itself. One can experience it (in most cases) only inside. It is actually moving box. People turn to be elevator passengers for the short periods of time. This fact doesn’t bother us.

DEAR ELEVATOR PASSANGER,

PLEASE NOTE: WHATEVER YOUR HAD TIME FOR LISTEN TO IS YOUR PERSONAL A-OBJECT. YOU CREATED IT AND YOU RESPONSIBLE FOR ITS FURTHER EXISTENS.

Thank you,

Yours truly,

Grundik+Slava
